HGF is one of the pre-eminent intellectual property firms in the UK. To help support the on-going growth of our Birmingham Office we are looking for candidates in all disciplines, and at both trainee and qualified levels.

At trainee level (both new graduates and part qualified attorneys) we are interested in hearing from candidates with a background in Engineering, Chemistry and Materials.

The Vacancy

This is an intellectually demanding, rigorous profession where the work is fascinating, the profession is highly respected and the legal qualifications are lengthy and tough. HGF provides fully supported training leading to Chartered Patent Attorney qualifications.

Salary Package

Competitive salary, increasing significantly with qualification. Plus bonus and excellent benefits including pension and 25 days holiday.

Candidate Requirements

The person HGF is seeking will possess:

• at least a 2:1 in one of the following areas: Engineering, Materials and Chemistry;
• a broad interest in science and technology
• A level maths, physics and chemistry
• excellent written and oral communication skills;

The successful candidate must be:

• highly accurate and literate;
• keen to continuously learn and develop their knowledge;
• socially confident and flexible in attitude and approach;
• able to enjoy an intellectually demanding and often pressured environment
• a team player

The Patent Attorney Role

Patent Attorneys provide technical solutions and write complex patent documents which legally protect their client’s highly valuable inventions; this requires an in-depth understanding of their technical specialism, and an equally deep knowledge of the relevant legislation and regulatory requirements which vary according to the country of registration.
