Rather than technology for technology’s sake, you’ll be analysing the impact that IT systems impact on the way a business operates from the first day you start.

The majority of assignments will require you to work closely with our clients; this will typically be at their offices. You will also be working closely with other teams within BDO to provide an integrated approach to the overall delivery to the client.

A key component of the work is gaining a detailed understanding the client’s systems and the way they process and report data. You will use the knowledge you gain to as the basis for identify risks which may impact our work and to assist our audit teams completing statutory financial audits. You will use the same set of skills and knowledge to identify operational and business risks as part of completing technology internal audit work.

In addition to the skills covering process and controls you will also gain experience in data analytics allowing you to verify accuracy of system output and identify anomalies within huge volumes of data.

As your experience and knowledge grows you will use your skills to work closely with our clients on advisory assignments. This will involve assisting clients in improving their systems, processes and controls to enable them to develop as an organisation as well as assisting in investigations when things have gone wrong.

You will work on a broad range of clients of various sizes across numerous sectors. You will also gain an understanding of many difference business systems along the way whilst being constantly supported and guided by senior members of the team.

Qualifications for Technology Risk and Advisory Services

Trainees joining us on the School Leaver Programme will spend 2 years working within the business and during that time will study towards the CFAB qualification. Following the successful completion of CFAB, you will continue on to study the ACA over the next 3 years.

During this time you will be also gaining experience towards becoming a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). Following your completion of your ACA, and on gaining 5 years experience you will undertake your CISA examination to complete the CISA qualification.

On completion of your training you will be an ACA qualified accountant as well as a Certified Information Systems Auditor. Both of the qualifications are highly respected and globally recognised. They are offered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).
