Our Shared Services & Outsourcing Practice is growing and has driven some of the most exciting work that the consulting industry has seen for many years across both the public and private sector, for example:

  • BP: we brought together the right team to improve shared services and deliver a performance improvement of 74% in just 14 months.
  • Unilever: we created a global shared business services organisation to deliver a lasting impact to our client.
  • Genzyme: using unconstrained thinking, we helped develop an outsourcing strategy to deliver over $20MM in annual savings.

Working in the Shared Service and Outsourcing practice at PA will enable you to gain invaluable experience in the challenging world of management consulting. The role is varied and will require you to manage several specialist industry work streams simultaneously. There may be opportunities to gain client side work experience in addition to undertaking certain formal training courses that PA provide. Many of our previous interns have gone on to become successful management consultants.

As a placement student, your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Supporting SSO weekly and monthly sales meetings through the compilation of reports, tracking progress on actions.
  • Updating and maintenance of the SSO library of sales proposals, track records, assignment artefacts and Case Studies to enrich the SSO practice intranet site.
  • Operate the assignment/project closure information capture in respect of supporting the practice’s Supplier Relations programme.
  • Researching various business issues, trends, demographics, industries, for consultants (i.e. current technologies; client and market information), in support of sales bids.
  • Ad hoc practice management tasks, e.g.
    • Creating and delivering presentations to senior management.
    • Proactively supporting senior management with Job, the SSO practice intranet site and the associated sales management systems.
    • Provide monthly summary to line manager on tasks completed/in progress.

This role is based in our London office and is to start in the summer of 2015.

Job Requirements

Our consultants create numerous items of intellectual capital which are based upon PA’s approach to consulting, when supporting their client’s. It is imperative that this information is harvested and stored logically for wider access within the firm. The role therefore requires a combination of tenacity, perseverance and a degree of diplomacy when engaging with busy consultants, focused upon supporting clients whilst working remotely from their home base.

  • Ability to work independently and meet business deadlines.
  • Demonstrates initiative in supporting the admin team and consultant colleagues.
  • Able to assimilate new ways of working quickly.
  • Perseverance in the ongoing acquisition of material from busy consultants.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confident, credible and able to work with individuals at all ranks of seniority.
  • Fully conversant with Microsoft Office products.
  • Au-fait with web based techniques for information presentation and reporting.
