If you can inspire individuals and teams to meet the needs and ambitions of our customers, and embrace our values, then this could be the career path for you.

What to expect

We look for customer-focused students and graduates with a desire to progress into leadership roles in Retail Banking and Wealth Management. Before you join the Retail Banking and Wealth Management business, you will complete a comprehensive induction programme together with other graduates. On the graduate programme you’ll complete four rotations, each lasting six months, which will keep you working in both customer-facing and specialist head office environments to give you exposure to the key areas of our Retail Banking and Wealth Management business.

Four Rotations: (six months each)

  • Customer Facing Distribution
  • Product / Risk Placement
  • Strategic / Project Placement
  • Leadership Placement

You’ll be the face and voice of HSBC in the customer-facing areas of our operations, understanding the core processes and propositions that drive a great customer experience. You will also be introduced to risk and compliance which help to protect the interests of our customers. There will be the opportunity to focus on business management or strategic projects, working on initiatives that support change and innovation across Retail Banking and Wealth Management. Your final rotation will be spent gaining people management and leadership experience.

Throughout the programme, we will support, guide and develop you, while our leaders will help you to be the best you can be, reflecting your interests and capabilities.

Learning, development and support

We’re looking for the future leaders of our Retail Banking and Wealth Management business. Forward-thinking, driven, perceptive students and graduates who enjoy being part of a team and are excited by new ideas. People who are dependable and open to different cultures.

Your career will begin with a structured induction programme. Then, as you move through your rotations, you’ll follow a path tailored to your needs. In an open, collaborative environment that values learning, you’ll develop core technical and leadership capabilities to see where you are best suited to progress. There will also be the opportunity to study for professional qualifications. We’re here to support your development – but as a forward-thinking, motivated individual it will be up to you to drive it.

You’ll be assigned a mentor and buddy, who will give you advice and share ideas. You will also be able to take on the knowledge of experienced colleagues around you. We’ll encourage you to build your network of contacts, which will be invaluable as your HSBC career unfolds. You’ll be able to get involved in sustainability initiatives, which will enable you to expand your skills base while adding value to the communities in which we work.

Potential career paths

Your learning won’t stop when you complete the programme. Comprehensive training and development will continue as you move into your first post-programme role and beyond, enabling you to take advantage of the broad and varied global opportunities we offer.

On completion of the programme, you’ll move into a people management role in a branch, contact centre, or in a specialist area of Retail Banking and Wealth Management. Then you will have the opportunity to progress into more senior managerial or leadership roles, with the aim of leading a branch network, contact centre or specialist team. The speed of your progression within Retail Banking and Wealth Management will depend on your performance and experience in successive roles and the quality of your HSBC networks.
