We provide financial services and products to corporates, governments and institutions.
Global Banking and Markets focuses on building partnerships with clients to help them achieve consistent, long-term performance. We use the strength of HSBC’s international network to connect emerging and mature markets, covering key growth areas. Our products and services include advisory, financing, prime services, research and analysis, securities services, trading and sales, and transaction banking.
Through our teams of relationship managers and product specialists, we build a comprehensive understanding of each client’s financial requirements and develop services to meet those needs.
Open to graduates and final-year Bachelor or Masters students, we have individual programmes for each of our Global Banking and Markets areas – allowing you to develop your specialist skills in a number of areas:
Our Banking programmes are both two years in duration. Whether you decide to join Banking – Country and Sector Advisory or Banking – Coverage Relationship Management, you will have the opportunity to complete a six month rotation outside of your chosen programme. This will allow you to build your expertise and understanding of the products and services in our international networks and learn how to tailor these to provide customer solutions.
Analysts joining HSBC’s Capital Financing business will join one of the following Capital Financing teams:
- Leveraged and Acquisition Finance
- Equity Capital Markets
- Debt Capital Markets
- Mergers and Acquisitions
- Project and Export Finance
- Asset Backed Finance
A unique feature of the focused training provided to Graduates joining Capital Financing is the opportunity to gain on-the-job experience of other business areas within Capital Financing through a tailored rotational programme.
After an initial period in the team which the analyst will ultimately join, each analyst will spend four months in each of two related teams, providing a broader understanding of the product specialisms as well as developing a network across Capital Financing.
Over 18-months, you’ll complete two rotations that build your skills and knowledge across a wide variety of research, plus you’ll have the opportunity to complete the Chartered Financial Analyst qualification. Helping our corporate and institutional customers, you’ll develop the ability to respond to customer questions and build reliable relationships with them, as well as internal sales and trading teams.
On this programme, you’ll work with our team of global experts to understand how Global Markets operate within HSBC. Joining a team in Sales or Trading, you’ll undertake multiple rotations, with at least one being outside your selected discipline. This will ensure you gain a rounded experience across multiple asset classes including foreign exchange, credit and rates, structured derivatives, equities and debt, equity and equity-linked capital markets.
HSBC Securities Services
During this two-year programme, you’ll build your expertise in custody services, investment operations, fund administration, corporate trust and loan agency services through four six-month placements, one of which will be international. You’ll also have the opportunity to study for the industry-recognised Investment Operations Certificate.
On every programme, you’ll benefit from structured and tailored training, regular access to business leaders who can coach and advise you, as well as continuous constructive business feedback on your performance. In addition, due to the international nature of our business, on many of our programmes there is the opportunity to work abroad. It will start with an in-depth four-to-six week induction incorporating both a technical and behavioural training curriculum that takes place in London. It’s an introduction to our way of working – our culture, our values and our business principles. You can also use it as an opportunity to establish your own global network. Your technical training will be aligned to the business area you work in.
