This eight-week internship offers students in their penultimate year of university the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the foundations of Commercial Banking, supporting either our relationship managers or product teams.

What to expect

Over the course of the internship, you’ll take on a role in one of our Business Banking or Commercial Banking centres, supporting either our relationship managers or product teams. You’ll gain first-hand experience of how we provide solutions to our customers to support their growth. This will see you taking on a hands-on, customer-facing role alongside experienced managers and colleagues and a diverse network of peers. Your team will value your contribution, and encourage you to take on responsibility and bring new ideas to the table. You’ll learn about the foundations of Commercial Banking and understand customer satisfaction.

Wherever you join us, we will support you in our values-led, high-performing culture, while our leaders will help you to be the best you can be, reflecting your interests and capabilities.

Learning, development and support

We’re looking for the future leaders of Commercial Banking. Forward-thinking, driven, perceptive students who enjoy being part of a team and are excited by new ideas. People who are dependable and open to different cultures.

The internship will show you what it’s like to work within Commercial Banking and help you decide your career options. You’ll be challenged to use your talents and academic knowledge to add value to your team, the division and the bank, and improve your professional and personal skills.

After induction, you’ll receive practical, on-the-job training. Your line manager will support you to get the most out of the internship and help you to evaluate your career options. You’ll have the support of a buddy and be able to develop your own network, which will prove invaluable in the future. There will be opportunities to take part in sustainability initiatives to develop new skills, and possibly become a future leader of HSBC, while adding value to the communities in which we work.

Potential career paths

An internship is the beginning of an exciting journey that could take you to the highest levels in international banking. Perform well and you could secure a place on our Commercial Banking Global Graduate Programme after graduation.
