What is the Finance & Accounting Internship Scheme?

Finance is a key support function within the business, producing and controlling financial data to deliver our statutory accounting and regulatory obligations. Finance also provides useful and insightful management information to help the business make effective decisions and meet its strategic objectives.

Over the course of the 8-10 week internship we will provide you with the opportunity to explore the way the M&G business is run, interact with people in all departments and at all levels, allowing you to develop a wide range of skills and competencies within one area.

You will be placed in one of the following teams:

  • Central Finance Responsible for the financial record keeping and control over M&G’s financial data. The team has reporting responsibilities to statutory and regulatory authorities and provides cost and income reporting to the Business Unit finance teams. It also responsible for the provision of data to M&G’s parent company Prudential Plc as well as the statutory consolidation of the Prudential Group’s financial results.
  • Business Unit Finance teams:

– Fixed Income and Operations – Responsible for the provision of financial data and management support to M&G’s Fixed Income Investment Management business and the Prudential Group’s IT and infrastructure operations business.

– Retail – Provision of financial data and management support to M&G’s Retail operations, including M&G’s overseas offices.

– Real Estate – the property management business of M&G, with the Finance team providing data and management support to this business, including its overseas offices.

  • Financial Systems Strategy Responsible for the operation and continuing development of the suite of finance systems, used across Finance to deliver all finance information.
  • Tax Responsible for all aspects of M&G’s tax compliance as well as providing key support and guidance to strategic product development across the business.
  • Finance Projects Support the delivery of finance change initiatives across all areas of Finance.

What will you do?

We take on a small number of interns which will allow you to become established members in our teams; from day one you will be treated as a key contributor, taking an active and productive role.

You will be aligned to one of the Finance teams which will ensure that you gain not only a good foundation but specific knowledge to advance your career. The nature of your work will vary depending on which team you are placed in.

Work that previous interns have been involved in includes:

  • Performing cost analysis, identifying anomalies and areas for efficiency
  • Reviewing and making recommendations on Finance policies
  • Supporting senior team members with the annual budget preparations

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for candidates who have a proactive approach to learning, be self-starting and have an interest in finance and accountancy. You will possess strong numeracy skills with an ability to think analytically, critically and conceptually. We are looking for candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds and actively recruit candidates from all degree disciplines.

You will be in your penultimate year of study, be predicted a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree from any discipline and have 300 UCAS points or equivalent.

What training is provided?

You will take part in a training programme which includes workshops on asset management and M&G. These are designed to be suitable for those without industry knowledge, and will provide an understanding of the whole spectrum of business areas within M&G.

Interns are also invited to networking and social events, and provided with a buddy from our graduate cohort who will act as an informal support contact.
