Choosing to join the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) is one of the most important career decisions an aspiring professional manager will make.

Membership of CMI brings with it professional recognition and a wide range of support services that will aid your development as a manager throughout your working life. Benefits of membership of CMI include:

Information services

Membership of CMI gives exclusive access to a comprehensive range of online management resources (including more than two million online articles and journals – and a growing range of diagnostic and self-assessment tools) that will support you in your everyday work, your ongoing management development and throughout your career.

Receive instant online access to the latest business and management news and research to support your study and work. Members access a range of information resources through the Knowledge Direct service, either online or with the assistance of our experienced researchers.

Professional Manager

Members receive CMI’s magazine, Professional Manager, packed with interesting features, news, and discussion about management topics. Statutory members also receive the highly respected Management Today.

Career development

From starting out to gaining promotions, taking a career break or changing direction and planning for retirement, CMI’s Careers Service offers a wealth of tools to help you plan. Achieve your goals and progress your career with an Institute qualification. As a nationally recognised awarding body they have a wide range of professional qualifications, including NVQs, Certificates and Diplomas in Management.

As time is such a precious resource for most managers, many of CMI’s qualifications involve flexible and work-based learning. Centres throughout the country offer our qualifications and in many cases distance learning is also an option.

Chartered Manager

Chartered Manager is the hallmark of a professional manager. Qualifications prove that you know the theory. Chartered status proves that you are using it on the job and getting results. CMI is the only organisation that can award this, the ultimate accolade for any practising manager.

Branches and networks

CMI’s branches and networks are active throughout the UK, with 85 branches hosting over 300 events per year. Examples of recent Institute events include a CCTV centre tour, a presentation from three high profile business leaders and wine tasting. Institute branches have speakers on a variety of subjects from analysing body language to improving your work/life balance. All events are designed to educate, inform and entertain you, supporting your development as a professional manager.

The annual National Conference offers the additional opportunity to catch up with current management thinking and find out what your colleagues are up to. Recent speakers at this event include “Dragons” James Caan and Deborah Meaden, Skills Minister John Hayes and Sir Roger Carr, Chairman of Centrica.

Continuing Professional Development

Use the interactive online Continuing Professional Development (CPD) system to plan and monitor your learning and development as a manager. Their interactive online CPD system now automatically records your progress and enables you to:

  • Test your skills and knowledge
