  • Role: Product Manager

Adam Stewart

Starting with RM

From the beginning it was a job with a great deal of responsibility, a wide variety of campaigns and literature to produce and lots to learn.

Even though I was ‘in at the deep end’, there was a lot of work from university that I could draw upon as well as a great deal of support from others in the team and across RM.

In my first few months I was very lucky to work on a number of high profile campaigns, and work with many different teams across the firm. I was involved in a number of process improvement projects and even found the time to win a customer satisfaction award!

Since then my role has developed further, as I have been promoted to a marketing executive and there are a number of other big campaigns that I have project managed for a variety of RM’s products.

What I do

My role is great, it allows me to work on many different marketing projects, allowing me to really understand the market, attend events and explore new media as possible channels of communication.

There seems to be so much I’ve experienced in my time so far at RM from working with agencies to deliver integrated campaigns to visiting primary schools to research their current issues.

At this year’s BETT show, the largest ICT exhibition for education, I was asked to research, write and deliver a presentation for the primary section of RM’s stand. While this was a pretty daunting experience, it did allow me to find out about some new and exciting products and present to a number of customers during the four-day show.

I do enjoy many aspects of my job, but I also really value the people that I work with. I regularly keep in touch and meet up with other graduates in my year group, as well as the many events that are organised at RM generally – we do have a healthy social calendar in the marketing department!

Pushing forward

To help develop my career, I have recently completed my study for my Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) postgraduate qualification. It was tough trying to balance work, CIM studies and a busy social life, but this is something I wanted to complete to further my career.

The experience and qualification will help me start planning more strategically and gain awareness of organisation-wide issues and potential solutions to them.

At RM there are always plenty of opportunities to develop yourself and I have recently moved to a new role to become a product manager for the company’s flagship desktop product range. I hope to continually develop my skills and expertise and eventually plan to become a team leader.
