Crystal McEwen

In 2005, I came to Credit Suisse through an IT internship after a presentation at my university. Having no previous banking experience I learnt a lot within the first few months, and thrived in the fast-paced environment. Everyone I’ve worked with has been very supportive and helped me understand new technologies and businesses. Four years on, I’m still enjoying the variety of my work and all the talented people I get to work with. There are opportunities I’ve had here that I’m sure I wouldn’t have had if I had worked somewhere else.

I am a member of the European Equities IT team that supports all trading applications for European Equities. Part of my role involves me building relationships with senior Front Office clients as well as IT management.

The most interesting part of my job is the variety and challenges that I have to tackle on a daily basis. Every day I am amazed by the new things I learn and the new responsibilities and opportunities I am given. As each business expands there is always something new and interesting to be involved in.

One of my greatest experiences at Credit Suisse was being selected to assist the Head of European Prop IT to obtain direct market access to the Madrid Stock Exchange. I had to deliver complex presentations in Spanish to senior executives at the Exchange, covering technical, regulatory and business information. This was a challenging task, and something I thought I’d never be involved in, however it was great to find out that it had all worked and I had been able to help the business.

All financial services companies have unique demands that leverage cutting-edge technology in order to gain competitive advantages within the industry. The opportunity to be at the forefront of this technology was just too exciting to pass up.
