Hammersmith & Fulham council, alongside seventeen other London boroughs, have agreed with the Careers Group, University of London and Step Enterprise to provide project-based internships for new graduates.

The paid internship scheme aims over the next four years to provide councils with 650 graduate interns. It will be open to graduates from all UK universities, not just those in London and it is hoped that in addition to providing valuable work experience that the scheme will raise awareness of career opportunities in the local authorities and government.

Anne-Marie Martin, Director of Shared Services for Students & Graduates at the University of London, said: “This is a notable and welcome recognition of the value employers receive from interns, and a significant contribution to graduate employment in the capital.  More than this it will establish links between councils and universities which we expect will extend beyond this framework agreement and provide long-term benefits to all parties.”
