The public sector has driven jobs growth to a five year high, but tens of thousands of public sectors jobs are expected to be transferred to the private sector in the next few years.

According to data collated from more than 10,000 recruitment agencies, the total number of UK job vacancies was up eight per cent last month.

Health and education jobs pushed the public sector towards the strongest gains, reaching a 60% annualised rate of growth.

However, the wave of privatisation is expected to undercut this surge in public sector jobs, with organisations like the Royal Mail, RBS and Lloyds Banking Group believed to undergo at least partial privatisation in the near future.

Some estimates place the number of public sector jobs to transfer to the private sector at 155,000.
