The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) is in talks with suppliers about the outsourcing of back-office services.

Prompted by government targets to make savings of £500 million from its annual £3.6 billion budget, police forces across the country are outsourcing to cut IT costs.

Running until 2015, the MPS currently holds an IT outsourcing contract with Capgemini, covering the support of 30,000 desktops and laptops, 38,000 telephone extensions and 8,500 mobile phones.

The MPS’s technology strategy aims to make savings of £42 million in 2014-15 and £60 million in the following year.
