The concept of ‘Long Data’ is expected to have a dramatic impact on talent management.

Where Big Data facilitates deep analysis of large amounts of information from a narrow period of time, Long Data refers to the analysis of data as part of a continuing process.

Trend analysis of Long Data would reveal the consistency of employee performance over a lengthy period, allowing for more effective talent management.

Orlando Ashford, President of Mercer’s Talent business, says: ‘At any given point, most employee performance ratings match a classic bell curve, which is not by itself very revealing. However, with the proper segmenting of employee populations and their performance over time, trends and carriers can reveal themselves quite dramatically.’

Mercer currently have two analyst positions to fill by 31 May 2013; one a graduate job, the other an internship.
