Sainsbury’s is to offer a record 250 places this year on its fast-track trainee manager scheme.

The supermarket said it received 3,500 applications for 150 positions, the most it has ever received, at the last intake in August 2012. As a result it will make a record 250 places available in 2013 to meet demand from it’s 1000+ stores.

The scheme is open to applicants with a minimum of two A-levels, including school leavers or job changers, for two weeks from 25 March to 8 April. Successful applicants will start in stores in July 2013 and then spend a year learning about how to run a department.

At the end of the training, trainees are offered the chance to apply for a department manager position.
