Employment levels in Britain climbed to record heights at the end of 2012, with almost 30 million people in work.

However, research from the Higher Education Careers Service Unit also found that employment levels for recent graduates have remained more or less consistent for 2012, with 61.8% having found work.

Adam Herron, chief operating officer of Human Capital Investment Group, suggested that this could be down to the fact that many employers want their entry-level positions to be filled by graduates with the requisite work experience.

“It can be very intimidating for a graduate or young person looking for work via entry level roles or traineeships and still be expected to have one to two years’ industry experience,” he said.
