The top graduates have begun to look to the technology and media sectors for the most attractive companies to work for.

Recruitment consultants FreshMinds recently surveyed 512 students and recent graduates from the top 13 universities, asking them what they wanted from their first job.

The brightest graduates replied that they knew what they were looking for from employers, and weren’t afraid to ask for it. They also demonstrated an increasing interest in working for companies in the technology, media and telecommunications sector.

Caroline Plum, CEO of FreshMinds, finds the news encouraging for graduates: ‘There really is a war for talent’.

With 13% of the graduate respondents, the banking and finance sector represented the largest recruiters in the survey, a slight margin on the technology and media sector, which was assigned a 12% share. Consultancy claimed 8%, while 4% were working in accountancy.
