A new high-speed undersea data cable has been opened in Asia.
The 7,800km Asia Submarine-cable Express (ASE) connects Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines.
The cable is three milliseconds faster than any other between Tokyo and Singapore which may prove crucial for the financial trades in the region.
The cable had to be installed amongst a web of current undersea cables in the area. Problem areas also had to be avoided such as the areas around Taiwan where earthquakes which could damage the cable are common.
