Engineers at Sheffield University have invented a system that can identify leaking water pipes accurately and quickly.
The system transmits a pressure wave along pipes which sends back a signal if it passes any abnormal features such a a leak or crack in the pipe.
Figures from Ofwat suggest that up to 40% of our total water supply can be lost due to damaged pipes. The device could assist in preventing water loss and has been trialled with positive results.
