Unused digital skills among the UK’s unemployed youth are worth £6.7 billion to employers according to a survey by O2.

Skills include web design, coding, e-marketing and social media expertise which are second nature to a generation that have grown up with the internet.

The study found that UK companies expected a fifth of their growth over the next three years to come through digital channels.

While 77 per cent of the 400 businesses surveyed recognised that young people had an abundance of digital skills, only 24 per cent were planning to offer an entry level or training role to a young person this year.

O2 said that more needed to be done both to encourage young people to showcase their talents and get businesses to engage with them.
