British Gas is offering free home insulation to anyone who is interested, regardless of energy supplier.
The offer comes as Britain’s largest energy supplier races to hit its carbon emissions reduction target (Cert).
The Cert programme draws to a close on 31 December and involves suppliers installing energy efficiency measures in homes in order to reduce carbon emissions.
While most are on track with their target some are lagging in the ‘super priority group’ which includes those on low incomes or benefits who would benefit most from reductions in their bills.
If suppliers fail their obligations, they face the prospect of a fine by regulator Ofgem of up to 10 per cent of global turnover.
