Join our team and discover a culture that nurtures individuality and an environment where everyone is supported to reach their potential. With us, you’ll always be moving forward.

What does our corporate tax team do?

Tax is a fact of life – it’s deducted from our wages, added to things we buy, paid by companies and rarely out of the news headlines these days.

But a career in tax isn’t just about numbers. It’s about working with people and businesses to make sure tax doesn’t become an obstacle to their long-term goals.

On a day-to-day basis, our team helps organisations comply with the shifting requirements of the tax authorities and pay the right amount of tax so they avoid criminal convictions, hefty fines and damage to their reputations. We also help shape business strategies so organisations can legally reduce the amount of tax they pay.

This role is within our specialist team which assists companies in the preparation of claims for Research and Development tax relief. This specialism is an important part of our tax practice returning double digit growth each year. We advise companies across all sectors, most notably manufacturing, engineering, software and life sciences. We wish to attract graduates with a science-based degree to help in this area whilst having access to wider tax experience.

What can you expect?

Our programme will provide you with an opportunity to build Research and Development tax relief knowledge and give you a solid foundation in a broad range of tax issues. With us, you’ll be involved in projects from day one – anything from liaising with clients to preparing and completing R & D reports and corporation tax returns.

The variety of work we do and the range of clients we work with mean you’ll have plenty of opportunity to discover a career path that fits your interests and long-term goals. With our support, you’ll have the space to grow professionally so you can confidently take on ever-more challenging tasks.

At RSM, you’ll gain hands-on experience alongside access to on-the-job mentoring. You’ll also be able to access our expert training programmes and have the opportunity to work towards the ATT qualification.

After completing your ATT, our internal mentors can help you decide whether you then study towards the CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser) qualification or joint CTA/ACA qualification, and will give you all the support you need to make a confident decision about your next step.

What we look for

Tax is a technically demanding discipline, so we look for graduates who are always up for a challenge and are quick to grasp new subjects. We also look for team players who can communicate clearly and are curious about how businesses work. While you don’t have to be a maths genius, you will need to be comfortable with numbers.

Our R & D team look for graduates with a scientific background providing a real edge amongst your peer group.

If that sounds like you, we know you’ll enjoy being part of our team.

Entry requirements

At RSM, we don’t just look for good exam results. We think passion, personality and originality are just as important.

You will need:

  • a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above or 5 National 4/5 Qualifications (or equivalent), including Maths and English language;
