The pensions arena is dynamic and continually challenging. Staying at the forefront of the industry means reacting swiftly to those changes. It means thinking creatively and innovatively to develop new solutions. At Punter Southall we can offer you a wide ranging and exciting opportunity to develop your actuarial career within the pensions arena, as well as providing you with an environment that’s as friendly and welcoming as it is supportive.

Our trustee and employer consulting teams provide professional and jargon-free advice for all aspects of occupational pension schemes including: funding, investment strategy, benefit design and reporting of pension costs in company accounts. We also have a wealth of experience in takeovers, mergers, acquisitions and management of buy-out situations. We also provide high quality pensions administration for a large number of our clients through our sister company PS Administration Limited.

We are committed to excellence in the professional services we provide. As a consultancy business, we believe we will continue to be successful by attracting, developing and retaining talented people who feel motivated and enthusiastic. This, in turn, depends on successful recruitment followed by motivating and excellent remunerative career opportunities.

We believe we have all these ingredients at Punter Southall. In particular you can expect exposure to a wide range of actuarial activity, early responsibility and the challenge of contributing to an expanding business.

We actively encourage and support our employees throughout their career, both from a continued personal and professional development perspective, which is reflected in our Investor in People (IiP) Gold accreditation. In combination with relevant professional training this forms the cornerstone of our training and development policy.

All about our training

We offer generous study leave and payment of study materials, tutorials, annual subscriptions and exams. Actuarial students are assigned a mentor, who is normally a newly qualified actuary to support them in their studies. Students are given the opportunity to sit mock exams before their first actuarial exams.

Employees are offered an induction programme upon joining, and an extensive programme of internal training courses that are held throughout the year, together with on-the-job training. Career planning and personal development are assisted by an in-house appraisal system which applies to all employees. Other forms of training include regular staff nights, weekly actuarial technical training and technical seminars.

As well as meeting the mandatory academic requirements, you will also need to demonstrate the necessary personal qualities and attributes to perform an actuarial consulting role therefore demonstrating:

  • An ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
