Employer Profile
The firm
We are an international practice of chartered accountants and have remained fiercely independent since our formation in 1933 and intend to do so in the future. We number 13 partners and 150 staff in the UK, with offices in eight overseas locations.
Size, most definitely, is not everything! Today’s accountancy profession is dominated by enormous, faceless organisations and a host of smaller firms who want to be just like them. Rawlinson & Hunter is different. We have an outstanding reputation in both the corporate and private client arenas. We have built this reputation not only by being experts in our field, but by providing an exceptional service. Our clients know that the partner they meet when they first come to us will be the one they will deal with for many years to come.
Although we don’t submit our statistics to the accounting league tables we currently rank in the top 30 firms of chartered accountants in the UK. Our annual statistics for fees per partner and professional staff rank us alongside the ‘Big Four’.
Clients and services
Rawlinson & Hunter has historically attracted a range of clients in a variety of business sectors which provides our staff with extensive experience during the period of training for their professional exams. The corporate services department provides services to clients including audit, outsourcing, corporate finance, investigations, and strategic financial advice. Although the firm’s clients cover most business sectors, we have substantial involvement in the following areas:
Art and antiques
Luxury retail sector
Motorsport and performance engineering
Technology companies.
The firm provides a wide spectrum of services to our clients. We don’t want to be considered by our clients merely as auditors, we are business and financial advisers. The provision of other services to our corporate clients is demonstrated by the fact that only a quarter of our fees from our corporate clients is represented by audit fees. The philosophy of the corporate services department has been influenced by the standards of service that are expected by our private clients. Many firms shout about service levels, but few deliver to the standard expected by Rawlinson & Hunter’s clients.
We work with companies in the early stages of development through to large international groups. Many of our clients are SMEs with entrepreneurial owners who work closely with us in developing their businesses. We are trusted financial advisers and can demonstrate many examples where we have been able to significantly contribute to the success of our clients’ businesses. Proactive and positive advice is what our clients require and why they prefer us to other advisers who only give options which come with pages of caveats.
Long-term client retention is a measure of the success of any firm and one in which we can claim to score highly. We act for many second and third generations in businesses that we have worked with for many years.
Training and development
Training is the foundation of your career and a wrong career move at this stage can have a profound effect on your career earning ability in the future. We want professionals who qualify with good all-round experience in both hard and soft skills. You will develop good communication and interpersonal skills due to your exposure to key decision-makers within our client organisations.
Training for professional examinations is outsourced to a leader in external training which is supplemented by an in house specialist training programme. Due to the range of clients that you will work with, assignments tend to be short, giving you a wider range of experience. IT is seen by the firm as an essential part of our service delivery and our investment in IT is an annual commitment. Your IT skills will therefore be up to date and significantly developed during your training contract. We train our people to qualify as true accountants, not merely as qualified auditors.
Opportunities
At Rawlinson & Hunter the firm’s policy on promotion is simple ‘you are only limited by your own abilities’ – which means that if you have the ability to become a partner then you can expect that you will advance to this goal in the future. However, not everyone can make it to this level; but you will become a highly desirable commodity once you are trained with the firm.
Due to our extensive overseas network of offices we can offer career opportunities in these offices to the right individual. If you are the right person for Rawlinson & Hunter we would prefer to open the doors of our international offices rather than lose you.
