At J A Kemp & Co, a leading firm of European and UK patent and trade mark attorneys, the work undertaken covers all aspects of drafting, filing and prosecution of patent and trade mark applications. Based in London with offices in Oxford and Munich, the firm is one of the largest users of the European Patent Office and well known for its expertise in appeals and oppositions, as well as for providing litigation support in high profile cases heard before the courts. The firm’s patent practice covers all technology areas.
J A Kemp & Co acts for a diverse range of clients, from start-up companies and world-class academic institutions to mature multinationals. The firm continues to expand its UK client base and has an established presence in the Oxford Science Park. The firm’s large international client base includes high volumes of European work for long established US and Japanese clients.
What we are looking for
Trainee Patent Attorneys:
Minimum 2.1 honours degree in a relevant scientific subject, at least 360 UCAS points and, for our Biotechnology Group, someone who is completing or has completed a PhD.
Trainee Trade Mark Attorneys:
Minimum 2.1 honours degree, preferably in Law.
Essential skills: excellent spoken and written English, accuracy and an eye for detail, the ability to explain complex matters clearly, proactive, outgoing and friendly, team player and a good listener.
What we offer
Patent trainees take professional examinations to qualify as European and UK Chartered patent attorneys. Trade mark trainees take professional examinations to qualify as trade mark attorneys. Additional support will be offered post-qualification to qualify as trade mark & design attorney litigators. Assistance is provided through external courses, on-the-job training and an extensive programme of internal tutorials/discussions. Our reputation for training and record of first-time professional examination successes are second to none.
