Employer Profile

Together, Harrison Goddard Foote (HGF) Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys and HGF Law form one of the fastest-growing, full-service intellectual property firms in the UK. From launch with a single attorney in 1995 the firm now boasts more than 50 qualified attorneys in a total staff in excess of 150, making HGF one of the top ten patent firms in the country. Growth has been secured organically and through a combination of acquisition and strategic lateral hires from both private practice and in house counsel.

The firm has strategic business groups operating in the broadly defined technical areas of chemistry, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, computing and electronics, physics and engineering, nanotechnology, trade marks, law; and oppositions and appeals teams.

The firm’s professional team is distributed through its seven UK offices in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester, Sheffield, and York. We plan continued growth of our existing offices in order to meet increasing client needs. We have recently won Managing Intellectual Property’s Scottish IP Firm of the Year 2011 and have doubled our office space in Manchester, Glasgow and Sheffield due to business growth.

HGF provides the full range of services expected from a leading patent and trade mark firm, with a dynamic approach to oppositions and appeals, strategic portfolio development, and acquisition due diligence that distinguishes HGF within the IP marketplace. The firm’s reputation has grown by providing clients with exceptional levels of service, commercial acumen and technical understanding.

HGF is a young and lively firm. Many social events are organised, a majority of which are funded by the firm. The social events are very popular and allow people who might not otherwise meet, because they work in different departments and offices, a chance to mix with other staff and partners.

HGF adopts a supportive approach to trainee development and progression; upon joining HGF each trainee is allocated a training budget which covers the costs of various training seminars and the cost of the professional exams which can be spent on whatever you need. Part of the training budget can be spent on one of the university courses (e.g. at Queen Mary, University of London or at the University of Manchester) to achieve foundation level qualification.
