Employer Profile
The working world looks to Mercer for expert guidance on everything from pension schemes and stock market investments to salaries, rewards and benefits. Operating in over 180 cities in 40 countries, we’re one of the world’s leading providers of consulting, outsourcing and investment services. In the UK alone, our 3,000-strong team supports a huge variety of organisations, including some of the biggest multinational corporations. Our products and services really are helping to change the way the world works.
As businesses across the world grow more complex, so the need grows for specialist innovative consultancies. We’re one of the most influential – serving over 60% of FTSE 100 companies and a notable percentage of the Global Fortune 500. We help our clients engage with and reward their employees, manage risk, drive revenue growth and improve business processes. We’re also supporting organisations to deal with emerging skills shortages, changing workforce demographics and the challenges of globalisation. Along with our professional excellence, it’s the breadth and depth of our services that make us an undisputed market leader.
Become an actuarial trainee
Our actuarial trainees work with a diverse range of clients advising on the design, funding, administration and communication of all types of retirement plans and helping our clients manage a variety of benefit plan related risks. For the actuarial qualification, you’ll also gain enough experience and credibility across a wide variety of projects to excel in a client-facing role.
Alternatively, you could become a valuation analyst, providing specialist valuation data and liability calculations or; you might want to consider becoming a trainee pensions consultant, reward analyst, or investment analyst.
The rewards
It’s in the nature of our business to examine what motivates people. Our own workforce is no exception. That’s why we offer extremely attractive rewards, including a company pension and an innovative flexible benefits scheme. Apart from the tangible rewards expected from one of the biggest consultancies of its kind, you’ll enjoy a working culture that recognises talent and understands the importance of balancing work, life and leisure. For instance, you can look forward to regular social and sporting events, subsidised gym membership and flexible working and holiday arrangements. This includes the option to buy five more holidays on top of your standard package.
Training and development
Our 18 month graduate development programme has been designed to identify and build on your existing strengths and includes a comprehensive induction, an exploration of the consulting business environment and a focus on equipping you with a range of skills you need to become an exceptional consultant. Your development doesn’t end at 18 months though. We’ll provide on going technical and professional training and assign you a performance development adviser. Together you will set goals and you’ll receive 360 degree feedback as part of our performance review process. What’s more, you’ll be rewarded for your progress.
Most of our graduate roles will see you study toward a professional qualification – Actuarial, the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or the Advanced Diploma in Retirement Provision. Whatever you choose to study, we’re here to support you. We’ll pay for your tuition fees, study materials, and give you a generous study leave package.
But you don’t have to take our word for it. Visit our website to find out more about how together, we can change the way the world works.
