Actuarial Assistant

The Job

Canada Life is the UK subsidiary of the Great West Life Assurance Company which is owned by Great West Lifeco. Canada Life began operations in the United Kingdom in 1903 and looks after the retirement, investment and protection needs of individuals and companies alike. We are a leading provider of products and services in these sectors operating from offices in Potters Bar, London, Bristol and the Isle of Man employing over 900 people.

We are currently looking to strengthen our actuarial team in Potters Bar by recruiting an Actuarial Assistant.

We have a policy of rotating our actuarial students between departments to provide them with a range of experience before they qualify.

Duties and Responsibilities will depend on the department, but examples are:

- Assist in the pricing and design of new products and review of pricing for existing products.

- Assist with the determination of the liabilities and associated analysis of change for reporting and solvency purposes. Assist in calculation of the capital requirement.

- Assist in producing and analysing the financial plans for the company.

- Assist in Solvency II or other ad-hoc project work.

All work is required to comply with internal company standards.

The Person

We are looking for a candidate who has graduated with a 2.1 degree or better and is able to join the actuarial team in September.

The candidate must be committed to qualifying as an actuary and so will need to meet the entry requirements of the UK Institute of Actuaries. Canada Life will provide study support which covers study materials, study leave and mentoring and this has proved successful with above average pass rates in the last few years.

The ideal candidate will possess good communication and team working skills and have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel and Word in particular).
